The 10th Calvary Reference T-shirt
I came across this photo while reading an article about the 10th Cavalry, also known as the Buffalo Soldiers. This picture, taken by Frank Q. Brown, shows 40 young men riding through Burbank Stables on horseback as they prepare for the filming of a movie about the 10th Cavalry. The producers had discovered the original training manuals of the cavalry and used them as the basis for the young men's training for the film.

Coming across this picture, I couldn't help but focus my attention on the young man in the forefront, on horseback, wearing a white shirt, a western hat, and holding an American flag in hand. Understanding the complexity of black identity in America, as well as the black American identity in relation to African identity, made this picture all the more compelling.
